faith-based, local churches play a big part
in activities with daily and weekly services.
In addition to 55 beds within the nursing
home itself, the facility includes seven
independent cottages. The residents there
are associatedwith the nursing home’s meals
and activities, but not medical or other
services such as laundry and cleaning.
Less Administration, Better Care
Wohler says working at the nursing home
is particularly rewarding “when the resi-
dents share stories from their lives.” On
the other hand, she says, “The work can
be challenging when residents get sick.
BVTC helps by enabling more time with
residents by taking care of phone service
and communications for data storage,
billing, and working with Medicare and
Medicaid.” She adds, “We spend less time
charting and documenting so we can spend
more time with residents.”
Linn Community Nursing Home has been
a customer of Blue Valley Tele-Commu-
nications (BVTC) since 1980, says Chad
Hiltgen, Business Account Consultant at
BVTC. He adds, “More recently, in October
2013, they became the first customer to
sign a contract for IT Support & Consulting
Services from BVTC to provide all their
in-house IT needs.”
One result of the consulting service is that
the nursing home will soon be going paper-
less. Wohler comments that BVTC has
been a “tremendous help” in getting
the Internet and file server set up with
passwords and security, as well as trouble-
shooting. “They have been more than
willing to help us and get the kinks worked
out. We’re a 24/7 business and cannot go
down. We have to be able to get help when
we need it and BVTC is always there.
We just make one call and problems are
promptly solved.”
BVTC appreciates the nursing home as a
customer as well. Hiltgen comments, “Linn
Community Nursing Home is devoted to
supporting local companies like BVTC.
They value the quality of our service and
support. And they continue to look for ways
that technology can help them improve the
services they provide to their residents.”
