need a fast, secure means of getting things done. Whether we are accessing homework
assignments or downloading completed financials, we have to be able to complete this
work securely and with peace of mind. Reliability is important to us and those we serve,
and we trust RTC to help us deliver that. NHSC could not be the institution it is without
the help of RTC and the services they provide,” notes Baker-Demaray.
She continues, “Most recently, NHSC went through a campus-wide wiring upgrade, which
improved our overall function and brought us into the current decade of connectivity. With
that upgrade, our technology followed right along. We were able to replace antiquated phones
and computers thanks to grant dollars and RTC’s recommendations and installation.
I’m thankful, because this work makes our campus one of the most ‘connected’ places
on the Fort Berthold Reservation—critical for the success of our students.”
Another campus-wide project at NHSC was the installation of a Wi-Fi network by RTC
technicians. This network provides Wi-Fi coverage everywhere on campus, including the
Cultural Center. Baker-Demaray says, “Many people come to our public library for the
sole purpose of accessing an internet connection, which on the reservation can still be a
struggle for some. We are glad to be that resource.”
Similarly, RTC is pleased to be a resource for NHSC, and to provide the communications
services the college needs to help its students be “Tribally educated; globally prepared.” We
look forward to seeing how education and technology develop together in the years ahead.
Thanks to RTC’s high-speed internet, NHSC students participate in a Zoom Conference with other students nationwide
to prepare for Tribal College Week.
