Wheat State’s Hello Central Summer 14 - page 4

Now that it’s summer, your family, friends, and neighbors will likely
be spending more time in the yard. So make sure you watch out for
these common hazards that could lead to property damage or injury.
Dead or overgrown trim limbs
– Trees are beautiful and add energy-saving shade to
your yard. However, it’s important to make sure they’re maintained and trimmed, and that
dead limbs are cut away. Heavy winds could easily break a limb and sent it crashing onto
your neighbor’s home or vehicle.
Uneven sidewalks or paving stones
– Anything that might cause a visitor to trip
should be fixed as soon as possible, so walk around and look for potential trouble spots in
your walkways. The same goes for garden hoses; you don’t want someone falling because
you left the sprinkler out.
As the old saying goes, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”

Working Together to
Fight for Fair TV Fees
Wheat State Telephone does every-
thing possible to keep costs down
and bring you the best TV values.
It’s important for you to understand,
however, what we’re up against in
terms of fee increases from content
providers. Nine media companies
control 95 percent of the paid video
content consumed in the U.S., and
the cost of basic cable has risen 3½
times the rate of inflation over the
last 15 years because of demands
from networks for higher program-
ming fees.
A common tactic used by networks
is to hold their channels hostage
from you during fee negotiations,
something Wheat State Telephone
is fighting against by joining
TVonMySide.com. This website is a
collaborative effort of hundreds of
local, independent cable TV provid-
ers across the country. By working
together, we’re hoping to improve your
TV offerings and keep costs in check.
