Wheat State’s Hello Central Summer 14 - page 3

What’s the Right Way
to Display the Flag?
Flag Day is June 14, and of course,
July 4 is just around the corner. When
you proudly display the American
flag, make sure you’re doing it cor-
rectly. Here are the rules from the
United States Flag Code:
• It’s the universal custom to display
the flag only from sunrise to sunset.
However, the flag may be displayed
24 hours a day if properly illumi-
nated during the hours of darkness.
• The flag should be flown in fair
weather, unless the flag is designed
for inclement weather use.
• When displayed either horizontally
or vertically against a wall, the union
should be uppermost and to the
observer’s left.
• The flag should never be displayed
with the union down.
• The flag should never touch any-
thing beneath it such as the ground
or the floor.
• Never use the flag as wearing
apparel, bedding or drapery.

M
oving to a new home is exciting, but can also be chaotic. To make things go
more smoothly, you need to be very organized. Planning ahead is key—be sure
to change your address with the post office and all businesses with which you have a
relationship, and schedule movers or a truck rental well in advance. If your new home
is within Wheat State Telephone’s service area, let us know your moving date so we can
discontinue services at your old address and install them at your new one.
Packing can be a big challenge, so here are a few tips to make it easier:
Designate a space for critical items.
Use this space for things like packing supplies and
items that should not be packed. That way, you’ll have one place to go for tape, boxes, and
labels—and you can prevent keys to the house and moving van from getting packed away!
Keep a list of your belongings.
Number each box you pack and keep a notebook with
a detailed list of what’s in each one. Color-coding boxes by room will also help once you
reach your destination.
Use suitcases for necessary clothes.
It takes a while to get through all those boxes once
you’ve moved in, so put a few days’ worth of clothing and other essentials in your suitcases
to help you find them easily.
Keep important papers and valuables with you.
To ensure that documents like birth
certificates, insurance policies, and bills don’t get lost, it’s best to take them in your own
vehicle. The same goes for particularly sentimental or valuable items.
Think “safety.”
Tape non-toxic cleaning fluids shut and seal them in a plastic bag to prevent
leakage. Also drain the oil and gas from power tools and lawnmowers.
Moving is a great time to consider upgrading your Wheat State Telephone
communications services, perhaps with faster Internet or a premium TV
package. To check out the options available, visit
