4 W I N T E R 2 0 1 8 BUSINESS spotlight Bunker Hill Chamber of Commerce “Where a small town makes a big difference.” This is how the Bunker Hill Chamber of Commerce describes its community, and for more than 40 years, the organization has worked to promote commerce by helping to bring emerging businesses to Bunker Hill while supporting and encouraging local merchants. Jill Chapman, Treasurer of the Board of Directors, notes, “One of our Chamber’s biggest accomplishments over the last five years has been the expansion of the annual Fall Fest. We took it from being just a few food booths to covering much of the uptown area. Fall Fest now includes lots of food, drinks, desserts, crafts, local businesses showcasing their products, an art show by our school children, and car and tractor shows. We’re thankful for our community’s support of this event and of the local organizations that use it as their main source of fundraising.” Another accomplishment was the re-creation of the Christmas Walk. Says Chapman, “In 2013, the Chamber decided to bring the old Bunker Hill tradition of the Christmas Walk back to life. Many years ago, it was held at night but the Events Committee chose to hold it during the day.” The Bunker Hill Chamber of Commerce is planning these 2018 events: • Annual Fall Fest, 2nd Saturday in September • Annual Christmas Walk, 1st Saturday in December • Murder Mystery Dinner, Friday, November 2nd In addition, the Chamber has begun a Queen of Hearts Raffle to help support its community events and provide funds for scholar- ships to high school seniors. Chapman has this message for local business owners: “I encour- age our current Chamber members to attend meetings or send someone from your business to represent you. With additional input from a great number of members, we can accomplish more and learn more about each other’s businesses. For those who are not yet Chamber members, I ask you to consider joining. This group is here to help promote your business to citizens and visitors and keep Bunker Hill on the map.” The monthly Bunker Hill Chamber of Commerce meeting is held on the first Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at United Community Bank’s uptown location at 129 N.
