Recipe from an SKT Customer

Janetta Burris of Clearwater shared this recipe with us. It’s

from a 1950s cookbook of her Mom’s. These cookies are not

only delicious—they’re pretty. Make them tonight!

Easy Color Cookies

1/2 cup shortening

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/4 cup granulated sugar 1/2 teaspoon vanilla

1/4 teaspoon water

1 egg

1 cup + 2 tablespoons flour 1/2 teaspoon soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

3/4 cup M & M plain

chocolate candies

Blend shortening and sugars. Beat in vanilla, water

and egg. Sift flour, soda, and salt together and add

to the sugar and egg mixture; mix well. Stir in the

M & M candies. Drop from teaspoon onto ungreased

cookie sheet. Bake at 375

for 10 to 12 minutes or

until golden brown. Makes 3 dozen cookies.

invited to enter the 2017 Southeast Kansas Area Telephone Directory Cover

Photo Contest. Up to three images may be submitted per person, and the

photos must have been taken in SKT’s southeast Kansas service areas.

The first-place winner will receive $100 and their photo will be on the

front cover of over 1,500 telephone directories. The second-place winner

will receive $50, and the third-place winner will receive $25 from SKT.

The deadline for photo entries is Monday, October 3, 2016.
