4 W I N T E R 2 0 2 1 Collision repair was simpler in 1954, when Frank Hilbing founded Hilbing Autobody in Quincy. Cars were bigger and heavier, and could often be fixed with just lead brazing and metal work by craftsmen. Things are much more complex and technical today, and what was originally a small automotive repair facility with six employees has grown to become one of the largest in the tri-state area, with 21 employees and an array of advanced equipment for vehicle measuring, alignment, painting, and more. Ownership of this family business was passed down from Frank Hilbing to Tom Hilbing in the 1970s. In 2007, as Tom Hilbing moved towards retirement, Craig Hilbing assumed the role of owner and operator. Craig Hilbing recalled, “I grew up in the business and worked summers there as a teen. At 20, I took on a full-time position at Hilbing Autobody, checking in parts and working on cars. That was 29 years ago.” Paying Attention to the Details As it has since its founding, Hilbing Autobody places a special emphasis on exceeding customer expectations with efficient service and superior quality workmanship. Its range of services includes: • Computerized Paint Matching • Frame Straightening • Paint Curing Oven • Expert Body Work • Steering and Suspension • Computerized Alignment • Insurance Claim Handling Beyond these services, Hilbing Autobody also exceeds customer expectations by storing all vehicles inside for safety and protection. The business is also happy to assist customers in making rental car arrangements or to take them wherever they need to go after dropping off a vehicle for repairs. Technology is Key To deliver this exceptional level of customer service, Hilbing Autobody needs more than skilled, dedicated employees. It also needs robust technology, both for repair work and business communications. BUSINESS spotlight Taking good care of people and their cars since 1954 Hilbing Autobody
