RTC's Communicator for Fall 2019

12 FALL 2019 Goodnight Midstream BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT The future of produced water management meets the future of fiber internet Co-founders Patrick Walker and Robert Rubey realized a need for safe, efficient, and reliable salt water management in the Bakken of North Dakota based on their experience as interest owners in the basin. They founded Goodnight Midstream in 2011. Charles Goodnight’s Legacy The “Goodnight” in the name recalls the legacy of Charles Goodnight (1836 - 1929), who was a pioneer, innovator, and preservationist connecting Texas and the North Plains. In 1866, he and Oliver Loving drove their first herd of cattle northward along what would become known as the Good- night-Loving Trail, through Texas, NewMexico, Colorado, and Wyoming. Goodnight also invented the chuck wagon, founded the Goodnight Academy to offer post-elementary education to ranch- ers’ children, and worked as a newspaperman and banker. He and his wife kept a large herd of bison at the end of the open range era, which ultimately proved critical to the preservation of the species. In keeping with Goodnight’s commitment to preservation, Goodnight Midstream’s approach to produced water manage- ment minimizes environmental impact and improves health and safety. It also provides flexible, cost-saving water solutions for its energy-producing customers. Value of RTC’s Fiber Internet Goodnight Midstream is currently connected to RTC fiber at multiple remote locations, enabling them to access high-speed fiber internet. Rick Hornung, Senior IT Manager, said, “High-speed fiber internet from RTC is an essential component of the safety and operations of Goodnight Midstream, contributing to our abil- ity to provide 99% uptime for our customers. Our pipeline automation system is comprehensive and detailed. We process and analyze millions of data points on a continuous basis while Goodnight Midstream provides midstream saltwater disposal infrastructure to oil and gas producers.
