About half of full-time workers surveyed in 2018 by the U.S. Travel Association didn’t take all the paid vacation days they earned last year. More than 700 million vacation days went unused, and about 200 million of those days were forfeited due to the inability to roll them over to the next year. On average, American workers took almost six fewer vaca- tion days than were earned.1 To make the most of your vacation benefits, start planning now. After all, vacation travel strengthens per- sonal relationships, inspires creative thinking, improves professional performance, and promotes better health. Need trip ideas? You could choose to answer the call anyway just in case it’s important or ignore it because you think it’s probably spam. When you choose the latter, you may remain curious about the mysterious caller if no voicemail message is left. That’s when reverse phone lookups come in handy. They can help you find out if a number is spam and determine the person or organization associ- ated with that number. As you may have already discovered, many of the reverse phone lookup services avail- able cost money or only offer a diluted version with few details for free. Don’t pay for this information. These sites generally have access to the same data as Google, so the likelihood of them having additional information is very slim. Here are tips for your Google search: • Go to Google.com and enter the number into the search box, area code included. Run the search and scan the first few results that pop up. If the number belongs to a busi- ness, you should the see the name at or near the top of the search results. • If you see the number logged with one of several websites that attempt to track num- bers associated with spammers and scammers, this can be a strong indication that the call wasn’t from a legitimate person or business. • Keep in mind that scammers have gotten very good at spoofing numbers, so you may even get calls from fake numbers that share the same first six digits as your own. • If the number is attached to a private household, the address most likely will not show up attached to the number. However, if that person has placed their number anywhere else online, perhaps at a social networking site, then that listing may show up. While it won’t work for every number—for example, cell phones and unlisted numbers are hard to track down—using Google for reverse phone lookups is definitely worth a quick try.
