To be eligible for the equipment, you must be a resident of South Dakota, have difficulty communicating on the telephone because of a hearing or speech disability, and already have telephone service in your home. The TED Program stocks phones that offer speakerphone with volume adjustments, volume amplifier, and large visual display. They also provide oversized and lighted dial buttons, hearing aid compatible phones, visual ringer alert or adjustable loud ringer, sound frequency clarifying adjustment, and tone adjustment. To apply, visit www.relaysd.com. Under the TED Program at the top is a section called TED Program Overview. There you can apply for a free or reduced phone. If you have questions or need help, call 711 or customer service assistance at 1-877-866-8950 (TTY/Voice). Here’s what the Better Business Bureau recommends: 1. Avoid clicking on links or opening attachments in unsolicited emails. It can download malware onto your device. 2. Don’t believe everything you see. Scammers are great at mimicking official seals, fonts, and other details. 3. Double check your online purchase is secure before checking out. Look for the “HTTPS” in the URL (the extra “s” is for “secure”) and a small lock icon on the address bar. 4. Never share personally identifiable information with unsolicited contacts. This applies to unsolicited calls, emails, social media messages, or in-person visitors. 5. Resist the pressure to act immediately. Scammers try to make you think something is scarce or a limited-time offer to push you to make fast decisions. 6. Use secure and traceable transactions. Don’t pay by wire transfer, prepaid money card, gift card, or another non-traditional payment method.
