PANORA FIBER • PANORAFIBER.COM • 641 . 755 . 2424 IN PANORA • 641 . 332 . 2000 IN GUTHRIE CENTER Paul Brewster Celebrates 25 Years at Panora Fiber When Paul Brewster joined Panora Fiber (then Panora Telco) in 2000 as a Data/Combo Tech, internet service was markedly different. Paul said, “In 2000, I remember installing 1 Mbps internet for customers, and they were blown away with the speed compared to dialup. We were working on copper pairs to deliver that 1 Mbps service. Now with fiber, we are deploying 1,000 times that speed and more.” What does Paul enjoy most about his job at Panora Fiber? He replied, “I enjoy that every day is different. No two installs are exactly the same, and no two trouble calls are the same either. When I was first hired here, my wife Kris and I were looking to get back to a small town. It’s nice to work for an employer that treats its staff great and continues to look to the future to keep growing.” The Brewsters have one daughter, Adelyn, an 8th grader at Panorama. In his free time, Paul enjoys golfing in the summer and hunting in the winter. How Can Wi-Fi Routers Help Parents Protect Children? Wi-Fi routers can help parents protect their children by providing features like content filtering, time scheduling, and website blocking. These tools allow parents to manage internet access, limit exposure to inappropriate content, promote healthy online habits, and more. While the specific parental control features will vary from router to router, here’s a summary of some of the most common ones: • Content Filtering - Routers can filter out specific websites or categories of websites (like adult content, gambling, or violence) to prevent children from accessing inappropriate material. • Time Scheduling - Parents can set specific times for when children can access the internet, allowing for bedtime curfews or limiting screen time during homework hours. • Website Blocking - Routers allow parents to block specific websites, ensuring children cannot access harmful or unwanted content. • User Profiles - Some routers allow creating profiles for different users, enabling tailored settings for each child. • Activity Monitoring - Advanced routers may provide reports on internet usage, showing which websites have been visited and for how long. If you have children in your home but aren’t currently using these types of parental controls, you may want to explore the features your router offers. They’re typically easy to set up and offer the peace of mind of knowing your children will be shielded from harmful or offensive content. In addition to taking advantage of these router features, it’s also important to employ other strategies to create a safer and more controlled online environment for your children. Make sure you’re communicating regularly with them and discussing online safety rules and expectations. To complement the parental control features on your router, use other parental control tools such as the device-specific ones on your child’s phone or tablet. Finally, stay informed about online safety and keep up to date on the latest online threats and safety recommendations. Panora Fiber’s Managed Wi-Fi includes an advanced, fully-featured router and the CommandIQ app. This app’s tools include ExperienceIQ with extra parental controls and ProtectIQ for network security. Cornerstone Group © 2025 Thanks for a Popping Good Time What Are Symmetrical Internet Speeds? The internet is a two-way street. Download speed is how quickly you pull data from the internet to your device, and upload speed is how fast you can send data from your device to the internet. Symmetrical speeds mean that your upload and download speeds are the same. For example, if you have a 500 Mbps symmetrical internet plan, both your download and upload speeds are 500 Mbps. Fiber is the only broadband type capable of symmetrical speeds. By comparison, cable or DSL services generally offer high download speeds but much slower upload speeds. If you work from home, upload speeds are critical. They boost video conferencing quality, reduce the time to upload files, and improve cloud-based applications and backup services like Google Drive, Dropbox, and iCloud. In addition, smart home security cameras require fast upload speeds to stream what they capture and enable you to watch while you’re away. Many of our fiber internet plans offer symmetrical speeds. Visit panorafiber.com for details. Panora Fiber’s staff and board had so much fun during Free Popcorn Night on Friday, October 3. We served 318 free popcorn bags at the Panorama football game and 388 at the AC/GC football game. We also assisted with grilling and serving food to fans in line at the concession stands. Admittedly, our performance at these tasks was a bit on the slower side, but at least we clearly provide the fastest internet speed around! Thanks to everyone who stopped by for popcorn (and more) that night. Panora Fiber loves to support our communities through all kinds of donations and volunteering. Looking Ahead • Trick or Treat – We’ll be handing out Halloween candy at our Guthrie Center office on Thursday, October 30 from 5-6 p.m. and at our Panora office on Friday, October 31 from 5-6 p.m. Bring the kids — there will be plenty of sweet moments. • Holiday Open House – Please stop by our Panora office on Friday, December 12 between 9:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. to enjoy holiday refreshments and a gift. Don’t you just love all the festivities this time of year?
