www.alliancecom.net 9 Do Quick Calculations and Conversions Google can help you quickly solve math problems and do currency and measure- ment conversions. Type your problem into the search bar and Google will do the math for you. For example, “2 x 56” or “23 Celsius in Fahrenheit.” Search MultipleWords Maximize your search results by using more than one term at a time—just add the word “or.” This is especially help- ful when you’re looking for options, like trying to figure out where to go for dinner. For example, if you search for “pizza places nearby or Chinese food nearby,” Google will show you search results for both terms. Reverse Search for Images If you’ve got a picture of something and want to find out what it is, Google Search can help. On the Google Search page, click “Images” in the top right to go to Google Images. Now drag and drop your image from your computer into the search bar (or click on the cam- era to upload it) and click on the search icon (magnifying glass). Google will do its best to match your image to others like it online. Use the Tabs After you enter terms for any Google search, you’ll see tabs at the top of search results. Currently, the standard options are All, News, Images, Videos, Shopping, and More. (Keep in mind that the order can change from one day to the next.) Use these tabs to filter your results. For exam- ple, clicking on “News” will show you search results from news media sites. If you click on “More,” you’ll see even more options for filtering your results, including Maps, Books, Flights, and Finance. Voice Search on Your Desktop Voice search isn’t limited to Google Home devices or your smartphone. You can use voice search in your Chrome browser on your home computer, too. Just click on the little microphone icon in the search bar and start talking. Noodle About Google Doodles Google Doodles are stylized versions of the Google logo that are used to celebrate events, birthdays, or other special occasions. The tradition started in 1998 when the founders of Google modified the logo to indicate they were at the Burning Man festival. The second Doodle appeared two years later to commemorate Bastille Day, and Doodles have been a staple at Google ever since. Here’s some fun trivia: • There have been more than 4,000 Google Doodles, celebrating everything from Jim Henson’s 75th birthday (September 24, 2011) to the creation of the ice cream sundae (April 3, 2011). • The first interactive Google Doodle was a tribute to the video game Pac-Man. Search for “play pacman” on Google and the Google Doodle version will appear in the Quick Answers Box, ready for you to play. • Google employs a team of illustra- tors known as Doodlers, who design the Doodles. Ideas for the Doodles come from a variety of sources, including staff and Google users. To submit your own idea, email: doodleproposals@google.com . 23 Celsius in Fahrenheit
