RTC's Communicator for Summer 2018

SUMMER 2018 11 2018 RTC Scholarship Winners Ally Behles is the daughter of Cynthia and Corey Behles. She is a senior at Garrison High School and has been active in the North Dakota Association of Honor Society, Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD), Science Olympiad, and Yearbook Committee. Ally plans to attend North Dakota State University and major in Engineering. She hopes this will give her the oppor- tunity to help society by improving technology in various ways and finding practical purposes for technological advances. Teddi Dwyer is the daughter of Tori and Timothy Dwyer. She is a senior and the valedictorian at Alexander High School. Teddi has been active in Hockey, Volleyball, Fast Pitch Softball, Basketball, FFA, Student Council, and McKenzie County 4H. Teddi plans to attend the University of Mary to study Teaching. This will enable her to educate the next generation of students. Kirsten Medlang is the daughter of Karen Lucy and Owen Med- lang. She is a senior at Kenmare High School and has been active in Volleyball, Basketball, Band and FBLA. Kirsten plans to attend Minot State University with a Business/Computer Science major and minors in Mathematics and Accounting. Kirsten hopes to move back to her local area to start a career working with com- puters in a business office. Hope Scheresky is the daughter of Bonnie and Galen Scheresky. She is a senior at Max High School and has been active in FFA, Basketball, Cross Country, National Honor Society, and Beef Cattle Entrepreneurship. Hope plans to attend North Dakota State University, majoring in Biological Sciences. Her goal is to become a pediatrician and return to work in rural North Dakota. RTC Sponsors Bryann Rainbow for FRS Youth Tour Bryann Rainbow, a junior at New Town High School, is attending the 2018 Foundation for Rural Service (FRS) Annual Youth Tour from June 2-6. Each year, in collaboration with National Telecom- munications Cooperative Association member companies, FRS brings rural students from across the United States to Washington, D.C. for a four-day tour. While inWashington, Bryann will learn about the telecommunications industry and its regulatory and legislative pro- cesses. She’ll visit the U.S. Capitol and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and meet with industry leaders and members of Congress. Attendees will be given ample time to explore the Nation’s Capital and its many attractions such as the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials; the Korean, Vietnam and newWorldWar II Memorials; Mount Vernon, home of GeorgeWash- ington; the Smithsonian Museums; and much more. Every year, RTC randomly selects a school within our serving area. That school then selects a high school junior to attend the expenses-paid FRS Youth Tour. NewTown High School was drawn this year and Bryann Rainbowwas selected. Bryann is active in Student Council meetings and volunteers in concessions and for prom set-up and clean-up. Bryann is on the basketball team and also does stats for volleyball.
